TORONTO, September 28, 2011 – More than 2,000 job-seekers arrived outside Randstad Offices across the country in hopes of landing one of 3,000 open positions, ranging from ranging from customer service, administrative support, industrial support, to accounting and finance, which the company was searching to find the right candidates for.
During the open house, job seekers met with recruiters to talk about which position best fit their experience and career goals. "We wanted to make sure everyone that made an effort to come received an opportunity to speak to somebody," says Marc-Étienne Julien, President of Randstad Canada Staffing Division. “Some will be called back for interviews, others have already been placed in jobs and all have benefited from the career guidance and expertise the one-on-one sit downs with the recruiters provided.”
Mohammad Ruhomaun, a recent grad from Toronto in search of an entry level bilingual customer service, technical support, or engineering position attended the open house and has already been set up with interviews.
“I just graduated this year and Randstad really helped me. You don’t feel alone, by yourself, just waiting for interviews. Knowing there are people helping is a big boost in terms of confidence,” he says.
Ruhomaun says he would highly recomend other jobseekers to attend Randstad’s Open House events. “Especially those like me who are just entering the market... As a new grad, Randstad really made things more positive and easier,” he says. “They ask you questions that you have never thought of in terms of finding a job. It was a great learning process.”
According to Ruhomaun the interview process helped him learn how to tackle different types of interviews for different types of jobs. “During my first interview, the consultant broke things down for me in terms of what employers are looking for. How to look at a company’s website, assess it and how to highlight my skills. I now feel better about marketing myself and my skills for specific positions. I learned you have to market yourself.”
Kevin Nkonda from Montreal shares the same views about Randstad Canada’s National Open House Day. “The open house allows the opportunity to meet directly with consultants who offer positions suited to your profile, it is a more direct and fast approach than going though an online application for example,” he says.
Nkonda says he finds face-to-face meetings accelerate the job search process and optimize your chances of landing the right job. “When I first arrived in Montreal, I was looking for work, and was in search of a temporary position. I heard about Randstad Canada’s National Open House,” he describes. “I got an interview the following Friday, then a transportation company offered me a job in administrative support. As I had experience in that field, this job was a perfect fit!”
